Frequently asked questions

Direct answers for expat parents.

Check the current MOE pages for rules, dates, and fees that can change.

01

Can my child apply to a Singapore local school if we are not PR?

Yes. International students can apply, but a place is not guaranteed. For Primary 1, families first submit an online indication of interest before Phase 3. For later primary and secondary levels, the usual routes are AEIS or S-AEIS.

02

How does a free call work?

The first call takes 20 to 30 minutes. You tell me about your child, your timeline, and what feels unclear. I explain the options and the next steps.

03

What are AEIS and S-AEIS?

AEIS is the Admissions Exercise for International Students. It is for entry in the following school year. S-AEIS is the supplementary exercise for entry in the same school year.

04

Does my child need a Cambridge English result first?

Primary school applicants need the relevant Cambridge English Qualification result before applying for AEIS or S-AEIS. Check the current MOE eligibility table before booking a test.

05

What should we do now if my child is in K2?

Start with foundations, not full practice papers. Read together, build comfort with everyday maths, and introduce simple worksheets slowly.

06

We may leave Singapore in a few years. Is local school still worth considering?

It can be. Consider your child’s age, how long you may stay, the change between school systems, and your backup options.

07

What if my child does not get a place?

Keep a backup school ready and continue learning while you plan the next application window. A future place cannot be promised.

08

Will my child cope with the language and pace?

English is the main language used for teaching in local schools. The larger adjustment is often the pace, confidence, routines, and asking for help.

09

If my child joins during the year, how can they catch up?

Tell the school early that your child entered during the year. Ask which topics were missed and what support is available.

10

Do we need tuition?

Not automatically. It depends on your child’s actual gap and what you can support at home.

11

How do local school fees compare with international school fees?

Local school fees for international students depend on nationality, immigration status, level, and the current year. Always use the current MOE fee table.

12

Can foreign parents attend local school open houses?

Many schools publish open-house information for interested families. Check the school’s current website before visiting.

13

Who is Kavin, and why does he understand this journey?

Kavin moved from India to Singapore as a child, sat the PSLE, studied at Victoria School, completed O-Levels with 2 points, and later attended Raffles Institution.
